  1. This issue looks excellent! I’ve written a couple of Kings of War scenarios on my blog ( If you would like to include any of them, or anything else from my blog in a future issue of Ironwatch then just let me know 🙂

      • Don’t worry, we’re not too picky in terms of the miniature photography 🙂 We also use Vassal maps and art from our wonderful artists as well, so I’m sure we can make your material stand-out articles with a ton of images!

  2. I really wanted to like it, but the presentation put me off hugely. Sorry.
It appears that you have force justified text- always a no no for large blocks, and you must must must turn off hyphenation- especially when using a larger font size like you have. On occasion there were three or more consecutive hyphenated lines. It destroys the flow of what are otherwise great passages. I’d suggest a smaller typeface for your body copy, and more white space.

It’s great to include fan/gamer images, and it’s great that you’re not too bothered about painting standards, but the mini photos really do need to be in focus.

The content, and its collation, was very good, and as a fanzine the standard of article was on the whole exceptional. It just needs a fresh template and more finesse on the typography.

All that said, well done for getting it off the ground. That alone is a huge achievement, and I’m sure it’ll grow in style and stature.

    • Thanks for the feedback. We’ve removed the hyphenation, shrunk the font size, and improved margin spacing (Others on the Mantic Forums agreed with your assessments), so hopefully this will improve readability.

We do try and pick in-focus and well-lit pictures for the fan model images, but unfortunately sometimes they’re not optimal. However, we’re trying to avoid relying too heavily on Mantic product images and focus more on fan-submitted images, so for the moment we don’t have a huge range of options. We’re optimistic about improved image selections in the future though, which should enable us to select clearer images and fewer official Mantic pictures.

Thanks again for the feedback, and we look forward to your thoughts on Issue 3, dropping in just a few days!

  3. Hey it’s me again.

I have been working on a space combat game set in the Warpath universe and I would very much like to see it published in Iron Watch, as this would help get more exposure and feedback. I’ve uploaded my work so far to my site as a PDF, it’s still a work in progress but a number of people have said they want to play it and provide feedback to improve it. Obviously if I could get it into the fanzine it would be a great help. If you would like to take a look please follow the link below.

You will find my email address at the start of the PDF.

    Kind Regards

    • Wonderful! I’ll take a look at it, and see about fitting it in to the Issue 04! If possible, could you PM me either here, on the Mantic forums, or email at a doc or link to a Google Doc of the product? It’s somewhat tricky to export PDF text to Microsoft Publisher, and Publisher tends to like to eat the formatting when doing so! 🙂

      • Sure, I will email it to you as an MS Word document tomorrow (its saved on a different computer than the one I’m currently on, long story). Please let me know what you think 🙂
